Use SFTP

Manage server files securely with an SFTP client.

Overview#

SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) is an encrypted and secure file transfer protocol for accessing your server files. Unlike the File Manager in the panel, which only works through a browser, SFTP lets you manage server files using desktop applications like WinSCP, FileZilla, or Termius — very useful for uploading/downloading large numbers of files.

Tip

SFTP is the most recommended way to transfer large amounts of files, because it's faster and more stable than uploading through a browser.

Steps#

Step 1: Log In to the Panel#

Open the Arqonara Panel page and log in using your account.

Step 2: Select Your Server#

Click on the name of the server whose files you want to access.

Step 3: Open SFTP Details#

Look at the navigation sidebar on the left side of the screen. Find and click the SFTP menu (usually below the Settings menu or in the Management section).

On this page you'll see the SFTP connection information:

  • Address / Host: your SFTP server address (e.g.: sftp://node1.arqonara.com)
  • Port: the port number used (the Pterodactyl panel default is 2022)
  • Username: your SFTP server username (different from your panel account email)

Step 4: Open an SFTP Application#

Open your preferred SFTP application (e.g. FileZilla or WinSCP) on your computer.

Fill in the connection fields with the following information:

  • Host: the SFTP address from the panel (without the sftp:// prefix)
  • Port: 2022 (adjust it to what's shown in the panel)
  • Username: the SFTP username from the panel
  • Password: your Arqonara panel account password

Step 5: Connect & Manage Files#

Click Connect (or Quickconnect in FileZilla). If a host key / fingerprint warning appears, click Yes / Accept to continue.

Once connected, you can upload, download, edit, or delete server files just like a regular folder.

Using SFTP with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)#

If your account has 2FA enabled, a password alone isn't enough. You'll need to create an SFTP Key:

  1. Open the Account menu (or account settings) in the panel.
  2. Click the Create button in the SFTP Keys section.
  3. Enter a name for the key, choose an expiration date, then click Create.
  4. Copy the generated key, then use it as your password when logging in via SFTP.

Additional Tips#

  • Don't share credentials: SFTP information is sensitive — anyone who has it can access all of your server files.
  • Be careful when deleting: Make sure you don't accidentally delete important files like server.jar or the world folder.
  • Speed: For large file transfers (world, backups), SFTP is much faster than uploading via the browser.
