Host Version Mismatch
Fix the server/player version mismatch error.
On this page
Players cannot join and see messages such as "Could not connect: Outdated server", "Outdated client", or "Version mismatch". This happens when the player's Minecraft version and the server version differ.
Causes#
- Outdated server: your server is older than the player's game version.
- Outdated client: the player's game is older than the server version.
- Bedrock often auto-updates on players' devices, leaving the server behind.
How to Fix It#
1. Update the Server to the Latest Version#
Follow the Update Bedrock Version guide. Make sure Server Version = latest, then reinstall.
2. Match the Player's Version#
Ask players to update their Minecraft Bedrock to the latest version from the app store.
3. Allow Older Versions (Optional)#
For version tolerance, some software (e.g., geyser/standalone) has an option to accept older clients. Enable it if your egg supports it.
Verify#
After updating the server, ask players to reconnect. Check the console log — a Player connected line means success.
Tip
Because Bedrock often auto-updates, check the server version regularly, especially after a big Mojang update.
