On this page

Welcome to the comprehensive guide for Minecraft Java Edition servers. This page is designed to help you build a server from scratch into a fully optimized, production-ready server.

1. Preparation & Basic Setup#

Before going further, make sure you understand the type of server you need. Arqonara provides Shared Hosting servers (Ergon, Singular) and Private Hosting servers (Vortex, Genoa, Ryzen) optimized for different workloads.

server.propertiesBasic configuration such as MOTD, Slots, Whitelist, and IP.
Choose an EngineUse Paper/Purpur for plugins, or Forge/Fabric for mods.
RAM OptimizationMake sure your RAM allocation matches the number of plugins/mods you have.

2. Adding Features (Plugins & Mods)#

Choose the method that best suits your needs for adding features to your server.

Plugins (Automatic)Use the Plugin Installer in the Arqonara panel. Fast, easy, and integrated. Plugins (Manual)Upload your own .jar files via File Manager or FTP. Suitable for custom plugins. Mods (Automatic)Use the Mod Installer in the Arqonara panel. Practical and fast. Mods (Manual)Upload .jar files to the /mods folder. Suitable for custom/external mods.

Tips: If you're unsure whether to choose Forge or Fabric, use Fabric for lighter performance or Forge for a wider variety of mods.

3. Optimization & Performance (Anti-Lag)#

A server that's "in sync" is a server without lag. Use this guide to make sure your server's TPS (Ticks Per Second) stays at 20.

Mastering Anti-Lag GuideLearn how to set `view-distance`, `entity-activation-range`, and `simulation-distance` for maximum performance.

4. Connectivity & Cross-play#

Want friends on phones/consoles (Bedrock) to join your Java server? Use GeyserMC.

Set Up Geyser & FloodgateAllow Bedrock Edition players to join your Java server without an additional Java account.

5. Troubleshooting & FAQ#

Server

Check whether the server is Online in the panel. If so, check whether the port you entered in the game is correct.

Low TPS (Lag)?

Run the /spark sampler command (if using Spark) or check /timings to see what is loading the CPU.

Plugin not being read?

Make sure the .jar file is in the /plugins folder and that you're using an engine that supports plugins (not Vanilla).
