Player Banned
How to unban a player who cannot join.
A player can be banned by accident, or the message "You are banned from this server" appears when trying to join. This guide explains how to fix it and prevent it.
Common Causes#
- The player was banned by an admin or a plugin.
- The IP/node is listed in the server's ban list.
- The player was mistakenly added to an allowlist/blocklist.
How to Fix It (Unban)#
Through the Console#
- Open the Console tab.
- Type the unban command:
unban <playername>or for Bedrock with XUID:pardon <playername> - Check the result.
Via File#
Bedrock records bans in permissions.json or allowlist.json:
- Open the Files tab.
- Find the relevant player entry and delete the line.
- Save and Restart the server.
Prevention#
- Make sure you do not accidentally add players to the blocklist.
- Use clear ban-management tooling so there are no accidental bans.
- Keep a record of who is banned and why.
Note#
Caution
For Bedrock servers (strict `online-mode`), bans may be based on **XUID**, so the name alone is not enough to unban. Check `allowlist.json` to find the player's XUID.
